About the Event

Attendees will discover:

  • How to manage streets, sidewalks, and curbs for pedestrians, pick ups, and parking given competing demands
  • How to create temporary outdoor spaces that provide more room for business activity
  • How to find resources to create short term and long term changes for businesses, blocks, and communities

During the workshop, main street teams will:

  • Re-imagine a block or part of a block for socially distanced business activity such as outdoor dining, pedestrians, sales and commercial activity, and public transit.  
  • Produce a road map (pun intended!) to plan, execute, or pursue partners and funding for street and sidewalk improvements in their business district.

What you need to bring:

  • A team that understands or represents the businesses in the district
  • A location where business activity could be improved through the reconfiguration or improvement of sidewalks, curbsides, and general streetscape reconfiguration.
  • Any available background information on the businesses or physical location

  • (10 mins) Introductions - names and communities
  • (25 mins) Presentation      
    • Covid changes - contingency planning for red, yellow, and green
    • Short term changes for long term benefit
    • Building interior issues
    • Streetscape issues  
  • (25 mins) Small group work with facilitator
  • (20 mins) Community report out - shared resources
  • (5 mins) Conclusion and next steps
